Why teaching cooking skills and nutrition in the community is so important.

Chelmsford City Council and Felicitous Foodology know just why!

Chelmsford Community Sport and Wellbeing organise a picnic in the park community event every year with much success.

This year Felicitous Foodology are on site to provide cookery workshops and nutritional education to both parents and their children. These workshops are nearly almost full, which shows just how much community interest there is, in learning how to cook fresh healthy foods.

Picnic in the Park will run in the Melbourne estate from 28th July – 1st August, with over 200 people a day expected to join in the fun.

Getting both parents and their children together for this type of education is not only vital, it is also very hard to achieve. Events such as these fun days are a guaranteed way in which to achieve this.

Cooking skills and nutritional education are pivotal in achieving healthy and sustainable diets which continue to be in decline in the UK.

Teaching these skills in the community is integral for improving public health, promoting healthy eating habits, whilst also fostering a strong sense of community. It empowers individuals to make informed choices and provides them with the knowledge to prepare nutritious meals.

Chelmsford Community Sport and Wellbeing are investing in community-based cookery and nutrition education to improve the home food environment for both parent and child. Programmes such as ours increase the child’s liking for fruit and vegetables, cooking at home with a parent and that vital communication from the child to the family about healthy eating.
